Sacred Celebrations of Basara: A Journey Through Its Five Grand Festivals
Main Festivals Celebrated
at Basara Temple
Vyasapournami (Ashada
Shuddha Pournami)
Celebrated in honor of Maharshi Veda Vyasa, the author of the Mahabharata. On
this full moon day, devotees offer special prayers, and scholars often gather
to recite sacred texts.
Dasara Navarathrotsavams (Ashwayuja
Masam)
A grand 9-day celebration of Goddess Saraswathi during Navaratri. It culminates
with Vidyarambham, where children are initiated into learning—a major
event drawing thousands.
Datta Jayanthi (Margashira
Shuddha Pournami)
Marks the birth of Lord Dattatreya, believed to be an incarnation of the
Trimurti—Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Devotees perform homams and special poojas
seeking spiritual upliftment.
Sri Vasantha Panchami (Magha
Shuddha Panchami)
Celebrated as the birthday of Sri Saraswathi Devi, this is one of the
most spiritually vibrant days at Basara. Students flock to the temple to seek
the goddess’s blessings for wisdom and knowledge.
Maha Shivaratri Utsavams (Magha
Bahula Chaturdashi)
Though primarily associated with Shiva, devotees at Basara also mark this night
of penance and meditation with fervent prayers and special rituals.
