Puri
Ratha Yatra also known as Chariot Festival is an important festival dedicated to
Lord Jagannath. It is also called Jagannath Ratha Yatra.
Every
year it is celebrated on Ashada Shukla Paksha, It attracts devotees from all over
the world.
This
festival commemorates the yearly visit of Lord Jagannath to the famous
‘Gundicha Temple’ while passing through the ‘Mausi Maa Temple’, located near
Balagandi Chaka in Puri. During Puri Rath Yatra the main deities of the temple,
Lord Jagannath, Goddess Subhadra, and Lord Balabhadra are taken out in their
respective chariots as a part of a huge procession.

Schedule:
- June 11
– Snana Purnima: The deities undergo a sacred bath with 108 pots of
holy water, followed by the Hati Besha (elephant attire) darshan.
- June 13–26
– Anavasara: The deities remain in seclusion, believed to be
recovering from a ritualistic fever.
- June 26
– Gundicha Marjana: The Gundicha Temple is thoroughly cleaned in
preparation for their arrival.
- June 27
– Ratha Yatra: The deities are placed on their respective chariots
and pulled to the Gundicha Temple by thousands of devotees.
- July 1
– Hera Panchami: Goddess Lakshmi visits the Gundicha Temple in
search of Lord Jagannath.
- July 3
– Sandhya Darshan: An auspicious evening viewing of the deities at
the Gundicha Temple.
- July 5
– Bahuda Yatra: The return journey of the deities to the Jagannath
Temple.
- July 6
– Suna Besha: The deities are adorned with gold ornaments in a
grand display.
- July 7
– Adhara Pana: A sweet drink is offered to the deities on their
chariots.
- July 8
– Niladri Bijay: The deities return to the sanctum of the Jagannath
Temple, concluding the festival.
