Narasimha Jayanti in Tirumala – A Divine Celebration of Sri Yoga Narasimha Swamy
On May 11,
Tirumala will observe Narasimha Jayanti, aligning with the Swati
Nakshatram in the month of Vaisakha. This auspicious occasion honors Sri
Yoga Narasimha Swamy, an extraordinary form of Lord Vishnu, who manifests
both meditative serenity and divine power.
Special Rituals &
Abhishekam at Tirumala Temple
On this sacred day, a special
abhishekam will be performed for the main idol of Sri Yoga Narasimha
Swamy, enshrined in the first Prakaram of Tirumala temple.
Temple Layout &
Significance:
- The sub-shrine of Sri Yoga
Narasimha Swamy is situated in the North-East corner of the
temple—a placement aligned with ancient architectural principles promoting
spiritual enlightenment.
- The deity is depicted in a rare
meditative posture, seated with four hands—the upper holding
the conch (shankha) and disc (chakra), while the lower are
positioned in deep meditation.
Historical Significance
& Link to Sri Ramanujacharya
The idol is believed to
have been installed by the revered Sri Vaishnava Acharya Sri Ramanujacharya
between 1330 and 1360 AD, a period known for the flourishing of
Vaishnavism and temple reforms. His contributions helped solidify the spiritual
traditions associated with Sri Yoga Narasimha Swamy.
The Philosophy Behind
Yoga Narasimha Swamy
Unlike the widely
depicted Ugra Narasimha (ferocious form), Sri Yoga Narasimha
embodies inner control and meditative transcendence. This representation
reminds devotees of the balance between divine might and spiritual wisdom.

Devotees visiting
Tirumala on May 11 can witness the abhishekam and seek blessings
from Sri Yoga Narasimha Swamy.
