Char Dham Yatra 2025: A Journey to Four Sacred Temples



The Char Dham Yatra is a special pilgrimage in Uttarakhand, India. It takes devotees to four holy temples in the Himalayas:

  • Yamunotri – Dedicated to Goddess Yamuna
  • Gangotri – Worshipping the sacred River Ganga
  • Kedarnath – One of Lord Shiva’s most important shrines
  • Badrinath – A temple of Lord Vishnu

This journey is believed to bring peace, blessings, and spiritual growth.

Temple Opening & Closing Dates

Each temple opens and closes on specific dates:

  • Opening Dates:
    • Yamunotri & Gangotri – April 30
    • Kedarnath – May 2
    • Badrinath – May 4
  • Closing Dates (tentative):
    • Yamunotri & Kedarnath – October 23
    • Gangotri – October 22
    • Badrinath – November 6

Pilgrims should plan their visit within this time.

How to Register for the Yatra

Registration is mandatory for all pilgrims. You can register in two ways:

1. Online Registration

Go to the official Uttarakhand Tourism website and complete the registration process.

2. Offline Registration

You can also register at centers in Haridwar, Rishikesh, Sonprayag, and Barkot.

How to Prepare for the Journey

Since the Char Dham Yatra involves trekking and high-altitude travel, preparation is important.

1. Get Physically Ready

  • Walk daily to build stamina
  • Try breathing exercises like Pranayama to adjust to high altitudes

2. Eat a Healthy Diet

A Sattvic diet with fruits, nuts, and whole grains will keep you energized. Avoid heavy, fried food.

3. Pack Essentials

  • Warm clothes (temperatures can drop suddenly)
  • Dry fruits & snacks for quick energy
  • Water & electrolyte drinks to stay hydrated
  • Basic medicines & first aid kit

Other Sacred Places to Visit

Along with the four main temples, there are some other important spiritual spots:

  • Vasuki Tal (near Kedarnath) – A peaceful lake linked to Lord Vishnu
  • Tapt Kund (near Badrinath) – A natural hot spring with healing properties
  • Jankichatti (near Yamunotri) – The last stop before reaching the temple
  • Bhagirath Shila (near Gangotri) – A holy rock where King Bhagirath prayed
